Anyone can get a cup of “Joe” anywhere from a fast-food restaurant to a regular coffee shop. There is only one place in the entire world that you can get a cup of “Frank.”
It can only be found at Grind Coffee House, located inside Landers Trade. Its where, as their axiom says, “Where Coffee meets community.”
“It’s been a thought for a few years, now” owner Chris Landers said. “When we moved Landers Trade into the what was Fred Pharmacy, with having a drive thru, it was just a missed opportunity.”
Chris and son, Chase Landers, travel all over the country racing motorcycles. They have been finding all the local coffee shops. They made the decision to make use of the space at Landers Trade which combined the new coffee shop with the paint department.
“We relocated the paint to upfront, and center, and sales have increased,” Landers said. “Now we have a drive-thru coffee walk up window and 700-square ft. of sitting area that will soon open up, along with an outdoor patio.”
The cup of “Frank,” is named in memory of the late Frank Jones, who raised Landers. Jones operated Jones’ Garage and Wrecker Service since 1967. If Jones could not fix a vehicle, it could not be fixed. He passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2024.
“Frank was a one-of-a-kind legend,” Landers said. “And for sure, wanted to have the coffee shop open before his unexpected passing. Every evening for years I would go out and have a cup with Pa Frank and take in all I could. To continue the tradition, his cup was black coffee with milk!”
At Grind Coffee House, it is about the coffee. They have to-go boxes that hold eight cups of hot coffee of choice! They call this a “Gallon of GRIND!” Plans are to do events, local businesses, baby showers, parties, and more. They can also make it yours with added flavors, sauces, and expresso shots.
Offerings also include both iced hot coffee, Macchiato, Frappes (frozen coffee), smoothies, etc. Soon, they are adding Cold Brew, Chai Tea, Matcha, Affogato with ice cream.
To go with all the good coffee, there is even more goodness. homemade baked goods, cake pops, glass bottle Coke products and water are available right now.
“We will be adding breakfast and lunch items in September, Landers explained. “such as bagels, toast, biscuits, local jams, bread, milk and other items.”
Lunch will be cold sandwiches, fruit and sometimes even pinto beans and cornbread. Menus will be changing but always expect it to be good.
The Grind Coffee House is different in many ways than others. They are open from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. seven days per week now, and when they are fully open, they will extend beyond 6 p.m. Another difference is that they are embedded inside a hardware store at Landers Trade. They will open up the space for contractors group meetings, life groups and more, including their outdoor patio area of confrontable furniture, bar top seats, which is good for all ages. They have already started a men’s group that meets on Fridays at 6 a.m.
Merch, including t-shirts, caps and more are on the way. Want to share? Gift cards are available now. Cannot come and get it? They deliver!
Grand opening at The Grind Coffee House will be Sept. 10, as close as they can get it to Frank’s birthday. The Grind Coffee House and landers Trade is located at 250 E. Stratton Ave., in Monterey. Call them at (931)559-4746. Even better yet, come on in for a cup, and “Grind Like We do.”
