Happy 2025 from the Hilltops at Monterey! The Bible truly says that “a City on a Hill CANNOT be hid.” We’ve had a blast in 2024 but wait for what we have in store for the new year.

. Here’s just a peek from Easter Rabbits to Summer Blasts and visits  from St. Nick. And what are some of the new business ventures coming up?

New businesses coming in 2025…

Expected to open in EARLY FEBRUARY.

  • Tennessee Central Soda Shop, at 123 E. Commercial, will open in early February with made-in-Tennessee ice cream, in addition to coffees, desserts, snacks and sodas. That’s just Phase one of two. Other information about the back side of the building adjacent to the Monterey Dept Museum will be announced later.
  • Domino’s Pizza. The ever-popular national brand of pizza, pastas and more will open in February at 124 E. Commercial Ave. Get it hot, get it delivered or pick it up. Check out their app for deals!
  • Triple C Realty and Auction at 209 E. Commercial Ave., will open soon. Entrepreneur Jason Cantrell, a licensed agent, will take care of all your needs when it comes to buying or selling property.

Opening sometime in 2025 just past the I-40 Exit 301, on Highway 70N, will be Stephens Seed & Supply, in a brand new 20,000 sq, ft. building, providing from five to ten new jobs. Business owner Joe Stephens said that this company is looking also for like-minded agricultural businesses to join in. Stephens even requested to be put into Monterey corporate city limits and is going through all the hoops required.

Other ventures at Exit 300 are in the planning stages. Thanks to a new multi-million-dollar wastewater treatment facility that has been years in the making and that has recently been brought online, growth is inevitable…and welcome! The possibilities are endless.

While new and exciting things are coming, don’t forget to visit our already established shops and restaurants. Ben Anna’s (fresh baked items, breakfast and lunch plates), Saporidi Napoli (authentic Italian fare), Las Agaves (authentic Mexican), The Lovely Brew (coffes, teas, sandwiches, soups and boutique). Fast food restaurants such as Taco Bell, Burger King, Dairy Queen, and Hardees always have valued menu items…and apps for more savings. The Convinence Mart at Exit 300 and Monterey Market, at Exit 301 have daily sepcials.

Are you ready to party? Buckle up for the year 2025 ahead. We will get the party started early.

On April 5, the 5th Annual Banana Pudding Festival (second time in downtown Monterey) will kick off the Festive 2025 year. Get your fill of diffent types of banana pudding and help judge the winners. Vendors of all types from food to jewelry and more will be along Commercial Ave. Don’t overlook the local shops and restaurants! They are loaded with value and savings.

Also, on April 5, the Monterey Depot Historical Society will have a silent auction and merchandise sale. The fundraising event will coincide with the completion or near completion of their newly renovated dining car. Yes, after many years, you will soon be able to go inside!

Just a week later, on April 12, is the Town of Monterey’s Easter Egg Hunt. It begins at 10 a.m. The Easter Bunny will have hopped down the bunny trail and dropped Easter eggs filled with candy near Whittaker Park.

Three age groups will be hunting at three locations: Toddlers to 4-years will be at the little league field, age 5-8 at Whittaker Park and age 9-12 at the Standing Stone Monument. Please note, one parent per child is permitted to assist the toddler to age 4 group. Each egg hunting site will have five prize eggs and one golden egg, as well as a prize claim station.

Movies in the Park at Dark will begin as the temperatures warm up and schools are out in June.

“Fire on the Mountain” will return as our Independence Day celebration kicks off on July 5 (date is set to coordinate with other local towns and cities). Come and enjoy the day in Monterey and stay to the end to see what we mean by “Fire on the Mountain.” It’s one of the best fireworks shows you will see anywhere!

All these events are just kicking off the year. Other things coming up include motorcycle races, concerts, heritage festivals and more before we get back around to Santa Claus.

Shucks, you don’t have to wait until an event to come see us. Bee Rock, Whittaker Park, and Meadow Creek Park are open daylight to dark all year around. The Outpost at Meadow Creek will fire back up as early as they can in the Spring.  The Monterey Depot is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday.

So, you see what we mean when we say “a city on a hill cannot be hid?” It’s even harder to hide when your from “Where Hilltops Kiss the Sky” and we party as hard as we do. For more information, always visit www.ExploreMontereyTN.com or call the Monterey Depot Museum at (931)839-2111.
