October 14th, 2023 will mark the 44th annual Standing Stone Day in downtown Monterey!
A beloved celebration of the community and the American Indians who once called the area home, Standing Stone Day is a comprehensive event meant to inform as much as entertain.
Built on the lore of the region, this Saturday festival is named after the small surviving piece of a huge rock monolith that once existed just west of Monterey. Note: The original structure is believed to have been crafted by the Mound Builders approximately 1,500 years ago and visitors can view what remains of it at the Monterey Public Library.
But, as much more than a history lesson, Standing Stone Day features entertainment for the entire family!
Vendors will sell handcrafted items and food, a beautiful parade will flow down Commercial Avenue, American Indian performances will awe audiences, and live music will be heard floating from the amphitheater at Whitaker Park.
